HireVue competitors: 11 AI interview software vendors compared
The short answer
HireVue competitors fall into three groups. A small number actually conduct the interview with an AI agent that asks follow-up questions and scores answers: InterviewAgent.ai, Alex from Apriora, Sapia.ai in text, and HireVue itself since it shipped AI Interviewer. A larger group records answers a candidate gives to fixed prompts and applies AI afterwards: Willo, Hireflix, Spark Hire, VidCruiter and Jobma. A third group sits beside the interview rather than running it, like Paradox for chat screening and scheduling and Metaview for notes and sourcing. Of the eleven vendors on this page, five publish a price and HireVue is not one of them.
Last updated August 2026
Search for HireVue competitors and you get a dozen listicles that all name the same vendors, rarely say what any of them actually do, and quote prices for companies that publish none. This page is the version we wanted when we were doing our own market research: eleven vendors, what each one really is, who conducts the first-round interview, and the price if there is one.
InterviewAgent.ai is one of the eleven, so we are not a neutral party. What we can be is checkable. Every price below was read off the vendor's own pricing page on August 10, 2026, every capability claim comes from vendor documentation, and where a competitor is a better fit than we are we have said which one and why.

Why it works
What your team gets with hirevue competitors
Eleven vendors, one honest table
What each tool actually is, who conducts the first round, and the published price where one exists. Six of the eleven publish nothing, and we say so instead of guessing.
No invented prices
HireVue publishes no price, so we quote none. The estimates circulating in other roundups contradict each other and cannot be traced to any vendor source.
The switching cost nobody lists
A new tool needs its own current bias audit and its own candidate notice. The obligation follows the job location, not your head office.
What it handles
Interviewed, scored and shortlisted on autopilot
The agent invites each applicant, runs a role-tailored screening interview by voice or video, asks smart follow-ups, scores every answer against your rubric, and advances the strongest candidates into a ranked shortlist for your recruiters to review.
- Conducts the first-round interview by voice or video, no scheduling required
- Asks role-tailored questions and follows up where an answer is thin
- Scores every answer against the rubric you wrote, with the transcript line behind each score
- Returns a ranked shortlist your recruiters review before anyone advances
- Publishes its price, month to month, with no annual commitment
Why InterviewAgent.ai
One agent that runs the whole first round
Not a one-way video tool, not a six-figure assessment suite, and not a staffing agency. Interview, score, rank and hand off in one place, shaped to the roles and rubric you already hire on.
Interviews every applicant
A role-tailored screening interview runs by voice or video, with smart follow-ups, on the candidate's schedule. Applicants consent and are told they are speaking with AI, so no qualified person waits days for a first call.
Scores to your rubric
Every answer is scored against the same structured rubric, with transcripts and highlights, so candidates are compared consistently and the scoring stays bias-audited against EEOC guidance and NYC Local Law 144.
Ranks the shortlist
The strongest candidates are advanced into a ranked shortlist your recruiters review. The agent never auto-hires or rejects, it only surfaces who to talk to next, and your team makes every decision.
At a glance
HireVue competitors compared, every price read off the vendor's own pricing page on August 10 2026
| Vendor | What it actually is | Who conducts the first round | Published price | Where it fits best |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| InterviewAgent.ai | AI agent that runs the first-round screening interview by voice or video | An AI agent, which asks role-tailored questions and follows up when an answer is thin | $149, $399 and $999 a month, month to month | Teams that want first rounds conducted and scored without an annual contract |
| Hirevue | Enterprise assessment and interviewing suite, plus AI Interviewer | An AI Interviewer running two-way voice, or nobody on self-recorded rounds | Not published. Essential and Premium packages quoted after a demo | Large enterprises that want assessments, interviewing and workflow in one contract |
| Alex (Apriora) | AI recruiter that conducts live interviews | An AI agent, in a live conversation | Not published, demo form only | Teams comfortable buying on a sales call |
| Sapia.ai | Structured text chat interview, no video | An AI agent, over chat rather than voice or video | Not published. Priced per hire, aimed at 500+ hires a year | Very high volume, mobile-first, frontline hiring |
| Paradox (Olivia) | Conversational chat and SMS screening plus scheduling | Nobody. It qualifies and schedules rather than interviewing in depth | Not published | High-volume hourly hiring where scheduling is the bottleneck |
| VidCruiter | Recorded and live video interviewing, structured | A human on live rounds, nobody on recorded rounds | Not published, priced by module | Regulated and public sector hiring that needs audit trails |
| Willo | On-demand recorded interviews with AI summaries | Nobody conducts. The AI summarizes afterwards | Enterprise from £2,999 a year, Lite $59 per live role | Occasional hiring, or teams that only need recorded answers |
| Spark Hire | One-way and live video interviewing, plus a separate ATS | A human on live rounds, nobody on one-way rounds | Video interviewing from $249 a month billed yearly, from $299 monthly | SMB teams that want simple video screening at a known price |
| Hireflix | One-way recorded video interviewing only | Nobody. The candidate records against fixed prompts | $75 a month under 50 staff, $150 for 50 to 250, billed yearly | The cheapest published route to one-way video |
| Jobma | Recorded video, audio and coding responses | Nobody. The candidate responds to set prompts | Not published, custom quote only | Teams that want recorded technical responses alongside video |
| Metaview | AI notetaker and sourcing agents, sold a la carte | Nobody. A human runs the interview and Metaview writes it up | Free, Pro $100 and Max $300 per user a month. Those tiers price the Sourcing agent, not the platform | Teams keeping human interviews but losing the notes |
Every price in this table was read off the vendor's own public pricing page on August 10, 2026, and six of the eleven publish nothing at all. Where a vendor publishes no price we write "not published" rather than repeating the third-party estimates that circulate in HireVue roundups. Several of those estimates contradict the vendor pages they cite, and we have not been able to source any of them to HireVue. Two published figures are floors rather than prices: Willo Enterprise and Spark Hire video interviewing both say "from" and "starting at", so the real number arrives after a demo. Willo has moved twice in ten days and now leads its Enterprise pricing in pounds sterling with US dollars quoted on request, which is a fair warning about how quickly any figure in a comparison article ages.
Who are HireVue's main competitors?
HireVue's closest competitors are the vendors that also put an AI agent in front of the candidate: InterviewAgent.ai, Alex from Apriora and Sapia.ai. Its broader competitive set is the video interviewing field it grew up in, which is VidCruiter, Spark Hire, Willo, Hireflix and Jobma, plus the conversational screening vendors Paradox and Metaview that solve adjacent parts of the same problem. Which of those is genuinely a competitor depends entirely on what you are replacing.
That last point is worth slowing down on, because the roundups tend to blur it. HireVue is not one product. It sells skills assessments, game-based and technical assessments, recorded video interviewing, an AI Interviewer, scheduling and workflow automation. If you bought HireVue for its assessment science, then Vervoe, Criteria and TestGorilla are your real alternatives and none of the interview vendors on this page replace what you had. If you bought it to stop recruiters running the same forty-five minute screening call two hundred times, the shortlist narrows fast to the four tools that actually conduct an interview.
We are one of those four, so read the table with that in mind. What we can offer instead of neutrality is checkability: every capability claim here comes from the vendor's own documentation, every price was read off their pricing page on the date given, and where a vendor beats us we say so.
- Conducts the interview: InterviewAgent.ai, Hirevue AI Interviewer, Alex (Apriora), Sapia.ai in text
- Records answers, applies AI afterwards: Willo, Hireflix, VidCruiter, Jobma, Spark Hire
- Sits beside the interview: Paradox for chat screening and scheduling, Metaview for notes and sourcing
- Assessment-first rivals, a different purchase entirely: Vervoe, Criteria, TestGorilla, CodeSignal
Is Modern Hire the same as HireVue?
It is now. HireVue acquired Modern Hire on May 9, 2023, its sixth acquisition, and folded the assessment and interviewing products into its own platform. Modern Hire no longer sells as a separate vendor, so if a comparison article still lists it as a HireVue alternative, that article is at least three years stale and you should treat the rest of its claims with the same suspicion.
This matters practically if you are searching for Modern Hire alternatives, because the vendors that used to compete with Modern Hire directly are Talview, myInterview and Jobma, and those are still independent. It also matters historically: a chunk of HireVue's current assessment catalogue arrived through acquisitions rather than being built in one place, which is part of why the product surface is so wide and why buyers so often end up paying for modules they never switch on.
Why do companies look for a HireVue competitor?
In our own sales conversations four reasons come up repeatedly, and only one of them is price. The first is contract shape: HireVue is sold as an annual enterprise agreement quoted after a demo, and a team hiring for fifteen roles a year does not want a procurement cycle to screen candidates. The second is scope, the module problem above. The third is speed to first value, since an enterprise implementation is measured in weeks and a monthly subscription is measured in an afternoon.
The fourth is reputational, and it deserves an honest airing rather than the pile-on it usually gets. HireVue drew heavy criticism over facial analysis in hiring, and it removed facial analysis from its assessments in 2021 after an independent audit. Its current AI Interviewer page describes voice conversation and rubric-based scoring, with no facial or biometric analysis mentioned. Anyone still telling you in 2026 that HireVue scores candidates on their facial expressions is repeating a five-year-old story. There are real reasons to choose something else, and that is no longer one of them.
If your reason for looking is specifically that you want a head-to-head on features and price rather than a landscape view, our HireVue alternative page runs that comparison line by line.
How much does HireVue cost compared with its competitors?
HireVue does not publish a price. Its pricing page names an Essential and a Premium package and routes you to a demo request and an ROI calculator, with no figures attached. That is the single most important thing to know when you compare it against anything else on this page, because it means every dollar figure you have read for HireVue came from somewhere other than HireVue.
We deliberately do not repeat those numbers. The figures that circulate in 2026 roundups, including a widely copied annual estimate and a per-interview rate, contradict each other and cannot be traced to any HireVue source. Publishing them would make this page look more useful and would make it less true. What we can tell you is the shape of the deal: an annual enterprise contract, priced by module and headcount, quoted after a demo, usually with an implementation component.
Among the competitors, five publish real numbers. Hireflix is the cheapest published route at $75 a month for teams under fifty staff, billed yearly. Spark Hire's video interviewing starts at $249 a month billed yearly, and here is a detail that reverses the usual assumption: the cheaper annual plan is unlimited jobs and users while the pricier $299 monthly plan is capped at five of each. Willo Enterprise starts from £2,999 a year with a Lite plan at $59 per live role. Metaview publishes $100 and $300 per user a month, but those tiers buy its Sourcing agent rather than the full platform. InterviewAgent.ai publishes $149, $399 and $999 a month, month to month.
Which HireVue competitors actually conduct the interview?
Four, and this is the distinction that decides most shortlists. An AI that conducts an interview asks a question, listens to the answer, and asks a different next question because of what it heard. An AI that scores a recording cannot do that, because by the time it reads the answer the candidate has gone. If a candidate gives a vague answer about a project they led, only a conducted interview can ask who else was on the team.
InterviewAgent.ai conducts by voice or video and follows up on thin answers. HireVue's AI Interviewer runs two-way voice conversations, probes, and compares each answer to your rubric with an explanation and an audit trail. Alex from Apriora conducts live interviews. Sapia.ai conducts a structured interview in text chat, which suits mobile-first frontline hiring and does not suit roles where you want to hear someone speak.
Everyone else records. That is not a criticism, it is a different product: Hireflix, Willo and Jobma have candidates answer fixed prompts on their own time, and Spark Hire and VidCruiter add human-led live rounds. If your bottleneck is that reviewing is slow rather than that interviewing is slow, a recording tool with good review tooling may genuinely be the better buy, and it will cost you less.
Does switching vendors reset your bias audit obligations?
Yes, and this is the part of a vendor switch that most buying guides skip entirely. If you hire for a job located in New York City, NYC Local Law 144 requires an independent bias audit of the automated employment decision tool conducted within the previous twelve months, a published summary of that audit, and at least ten business days' notice to candidates before use. The audit is of the tool as you use it. Swapping tools means the new one needs its own current audit and its own notice.
The duty follows the job, not your headquarters, which is why this catches distributed teams by surprise. A company in Denver hiring for a role open to a candidate in New York City is inside the rule. Penalties run $500 for a first violation and $500 to $1,500 for each subsequent one, and each day of use counts as a separate violation, as does each failure to give notice.
Illinois adds its own layer: the Artificial Intelligence Video Interview Act requires notice, an explanation of how the AI works, and consent, and an amendment to the Illinois Human Rights Act effective January 1, 2026 names zip code specifically as an impermissible proxy. Maryland requires a signed waiver before any facial template is created. Ask any vendor on this list for their most recent audit summary and the date it was completed. A vendor that cannot produce one has told you something useful. Our AI hiring compliance page covers what each rule actually requires.
How do you evaluate a HireVue competitor without wasting a quarter?
Start with the question a demo will not answer directly: does this tool conduct the interview, or does it record one? Every other question is downstream of that. Then run the same three candidates through the two finalists and compare what comes back, because vendor demos use vendor-chosen examples and your roles are not their roles.
The things worth checking that rarely make it into a feature grid: whether scoring is anchored to criteria you wrote or to a model you cannot inspect, whether each score links to the transcript line that produced it, what the tool does when a candidate's connection drops halfway through, and whether the ATS integration writes back to the candidate record or just fires a webhook. Ask what happens to interview recordings at the end of your retention window, and get the answer in writing.
On pricing, ask three questions in this order: is that number a floor or a price, what does it cover at our headcount, and what does it cost in year two. Two of the five published prices in the table above are floors, and the gap between a floor and a signed number in this category is not small.
- Conducted or recorded? Everything else follows from the answer
- Is scoring anchored to your rubric, and does each score cite the transcript
- Floor price or real price, and what changes in year two
- Current independent bias audit summary, with the completion date
- What the ATS integration actually writes back to the candidate record
