The best Truffle alternative depends on what you want the first round to do. If you want cheaper recorded answers your team watches, Hirevire (from $39 a month billed yearly) and Hireflix (from $75 a month billed yearly) cost less at low volume. If you want software that holds the conversation, asks follow-ups and scores it, compare AI interviewers such as InterviewAgent.ai (from $149 a month), Ribbon AI, Classet and HappyFleet. Eight of the nine options below print a price on their own site.
Truffle is a screening tool for small and mid-sized teams. One pool of credits pays for an AI match score on each resume, short assessments and one-way video interviews that candidates record on their own time, which Truffle's AI then summarizes and scores. It is good value, and it changed its pricing this year: the flat $149 a month plan was retired in June 2026 and replaced with credit plans from $49 to $599 a month, where a resume costs 1 credit, an assessed candidate 2 and a completed interview 5. Truffle sells from the hiretruffle.com domain, so HireTruffle alternatives and Truffle alternatives are the same search.
People start looking around for one of three reasons. The credit pool empties faster than expected once resumes, tests and interviews share it. A hiring manager wants to hear how a candidate thinks when pushed, which a recording of fixed questions cannot show. Or the team only needs one of Truffle's three stages and would rather pay for that alone. This guide to the Truffle competitors worth a demo is for a US recruiter, HR manager or agency owner in one of those spots. We build one of the tools below, so treat that as a disclosed interest. Every price was read on the vendor's own site on the date shown. What Truffle itself charges, plan by plan, is on our Truffle pricing page.

What is the best alternative to Truffle?
It depends which part of Truffle you are replacing. Truffle bundles three stages, most alternatives to Truffle replace only one of them, and each stage has a different best substitute. For recorded answers alone, Hireflix and Hirevire are cheaper at low volume and simpler. For the interview itself, an AI interviewer gives you something Truffle does not: a conversation where the next question depends on the last answer. For skills tests, an assessment platform such as TestGorilla or Adaface goes much deeper than a short screening quiz.
Before any demo, pull one month of Truffle usage and split it by type. If most credits went on resumes, you are really buying resume screening. If most went on interviews and your hiring managers still re-screen the shortlist by phone, the recording is not answering their questions, and a cheaper recorder will not fix that.
Truffle alternatives that only record answers
Hirevire is the closest like-for-like swap at the bottom of the market. Essentials is $49 a month or $39 billed yearly, and candidates can answer by video, audio or text, which helps for roles where nobody needs to see a face. Hireflix sells unlimited interview responses at a flat rate: $75 a month billed yearly for companies under 50 employees and $150 for 50 to 250. A team running 200 recorded interviews a month pays less on Hireflix Small than on any Truffle plan that covers that volume. Our Hireflix pricing page breaks down its two plans.
Spark Hire is the established name, at $249 a month billed annually or $299 month to month, and it adds live video for the second round. None of these three scores the answers for you the way Truffle does. Your team watches every recording, which is fine at 20 candidates a week and hard at 200. The trade-offs between recorders are covered on one-way video interview software.
Truffle alternatives that interview the candidate
This is the real step up. In a one-way interview, a candidate who answers "I handled difficult customers in my last job" gets no follow-up, and a reviewer has to guess. An AI interviewer asks the obvious next question: what happened, what did you say, how did it end. That is the part of a phone screen that actually separates candidates, and it is the part a recording leaves out.
InterviewAgent.ai runs that first round. The agent can call the candidate from your company's own verified number, or interview by voice, video or in writing from a link, asks a follow-up when an answer is thin, scores each answer against anchors your team wrote, and returns a ranked shortlist with the quote behind every score. A recruiter makes every decision. Plans are $149 a month for up to 100 interviews, or $888 a year, which is about 74 cents per conducted interview. At 300 interviews a month, our Growth plan billed yearly costs $2,388, exactly what a year of Truffle Team costs for 300 one-way interviews. How the scores are built is on interview scorecard software.
Ribbon AI runs voice and video interviews from $499 a month billed annually for 100 interviews. Interviewer.AI adds conversational interviews on its $399 Professional plan. For hourly and trades roles where applicants will not open a link, Classet and HappyFleet phone the candidate; Classet costs about $4.98 per interview on annual Starter, HappyFleet about $7.45 on its $149 Starter. The wider field is compared on AI interview software.
Truffle alternatives for the resume and test stages
If the stage you most need is a skills test, TestGorilla's Assessments Core starts at $215 a month billed annually and Adaface sells credits from $500 a year for 50 candidates, both read October 5, 2026. Each goes well beyond the short assessments Truffle bundles. Our Vervoe alternatives guide compares the test platforms in more detail.
For engineering roles, a recorded answer tells you little about whether someone can write working code. Many small companies skip the screening stack for those roles and hire developers vetted by skill instead, then keep Truffle or an AI interviewer for everything else. That split often costs less than stretching one tool across every role.
Is Truffle cheaper than its competitors?
Per recorded interview at volume, usually yes. Truffle Scale billed annually works out to about 62 cents per one-way interview, and Team to about 66 cents, if the whole pool goes on interviews. The catch is the shared pool. A role with 100 applicants and 30 interviews uses 250 credits, so the effective price of the interview stage rises as soon as you score resumes in the same account.
The honest comparison is per useful outcome, not per credit. If a recorded answer gets a candidate to a hiring manager who then has to phone them anyway, you paid for two screens. If a conducted interview gets the shortlist straight to the hiring manager with the reasoning attached, one screen was enough. Run your own numbers with real volume on our pricing page and Truffle's.
What to check before you switch from Truffle
First, your credit balance. Truffle forfeits rolled-over credits on a downgrade or cancellation, so spend a banked pool before you change plans. Second, your data: export candidate summaries, scores and recordings for roles still open or likely to be challenged. Third, your compliance file. If AI scores helped rank candidates hired in New York City, keep the bias audit summary and candidate notices, because Local Law 144 duties sit with the employer. Our page on AI hiring compliance lists what to keep.
Then run the replacement on one live role for two weeks next to Truffle, and compare both shortlists with your hiring manager's own picks. Whichever matches better, and gets more candidates to finish, earns the rest of your roles.
Truffle alternatives frequently asked questions
Is there a cheaper alternative to Truffle?
At low volume, yes. Hirevire Essentials is $39 a month billed yearly and Hireflix Small is $75 a month billed yearly for unlimited recorded interviews, against Truffle Starter at $49 a month for about 40 interviews. At high volume, Truffle Scale at about 62 cents per interview is hard to beat on price alone.
Does Truffle do live AI interviews?
No. Truffle's interviews are one-way: candidates record answers to questions you choose, and the AI summarizes and scores the recording. Nobody asks a follow-up. For a live conversation with follow-ups, compare AI interviewers such as InterviewAgent.ai, Ribbon AI, Classet or HappyFleet.
Which Truffle alternative calls candidates by phone?
InterviewAgent.ai, Classet and HappyFleet all phone the candidate. Our agent calls US and Canadian numbers from your company's verified number between 8 am and 9 pm local time and discloses that it is an AI. Classet also answers an inbound hiring line, which ours does not.
What happened to Truffle's $149 plan?
Truffle retired the flat $149 a month plan in June 2026 and replaced it with credit plans from $49 to $599 a month. Directory listings that still quote $149, or $99 with 150 candidates, describe pricing a new account cannot buy.
If you would rather see a conducted first round than read about one, the interview agent at the top of this page runs one on a role you name. Plans and interview counts are on our pricing page.
