Best AI Interview Software for Small Business: 10 Tools Compared on Real Pricing

For a small business, the best AI interview software is whichever tool removes the step you actually cannot staff. If your problem is that nobody has time to run first-round calls, pick a tool that conducts the interview: InterviewAgent.ai at 149 dollars a month or HireVue's AI Interviewer at quote-only pricing. If your problem is only scheduling, a one-way recorder like Hireflix at 75 dollars a month is cheaper and sufficient. Most tools in this category record interviews rather than conduct them, and the difference decides whether you save recruiter hours or just move them.

Small teams get sold enterprise logic in this category. Vendors talk about requisition volume and integration depth, when the real constraint at ten or fifty employees is that the person doing the hiring is also doing another full-time job. So this comparison is organized around two questions that matter at that size: does the tool actually remove work, and can you see what it costs without a sales call.

Which AI interview tools publish a price?

Only five of the ten most commonly shortlisted vendors publish pricing at all. For a small business, that alone narrows the field, because a quote-only vendor means a discovery call, a demo, and often a minimum contract before you learn whether it was ever affordable. Everything below was checked on the vendors' own pricing pages in July 2026.

Conducting an interview and recording one are not the same purchase

This is the distinction that decides whether the software pays for itself. A one-way video tool sends the candidate a set of preset questions, records their answers, and puts the recordings in a queue. That solves scheduling. It does not solve reviewing, and reviewing is the part that consumes the hours. Forty candidates recording five answers each produces something close to four hours of video that a human still has to watch, judge and compare.

A tool that conducts the interview holds an actual conversation. It asks the question, listens, and asks a follow-up shaped by the answer, then scores each response against a rubric you defined and ranks the candidates. The output is a shortlist rather than a media library. For a small business, that is the difference between buying software and buying back an afternoon a week.

Only three of the ten tools above conduct an adaptive interview: InterviewAgent.ai, HireVue's AI Interviewer, and Alex. Two of the three do not publish a price. That is the whole shape of the small-business decision in this category.

What should a small business actually pay for AI interview software?

Anchor the number to what the round costs you today rather than to competing subscription prices. A first-round screen runs 20 to 30 minutes plus scheduling overhead and notes, so call it 45 minutes of loaded recruiter or manager time. At a modest 50 dollars an hour fully loaded, screening 30 candidates for one role costs roughly 1,125 dollars in time. SHRM's 2025 benchmarking data puts average cost per hire at 5,475 dollars for non-executive roles, with screening and interviewing each taking eight to nine days of the process.

Against that, a 149 dollar monthly subscription clears its cost on the first role you fill, provided the tool genuinely removes the hour rather than relocating it. A 75 dollar recording tool has a lower sticker price and removes less work, so the honest comparison is subscription plus remaining human hours, not subscription alone. We break the arithmetic down further in our guides to what AI interview software costs and cost per hire benchmarks.

One caution for small teams: watch seat and volume caps rather than headline price. Several plans in the table above limit active jobs or users at the entry tier, and Spark Hire's monthly video plan caps at five jobs and five users. Software costs have a way of drifting once every tool adds a seat, so it is worth keeping an eye on what the whole subscription stack actually costs each month before adding another line item.

Best AI interview software for a small business, by situation

If nobody has time to run first-round calls

Pick a tool that conducts the interview. This is the situation where the category earns its money, because the hours come off the calendar rather than shifting to a review queue. InterviewAgent.ai is the option here with published pricing at 149 dollars a month and no implementation project; you set the role and rubric and start screening in days. HireVue and Alex do the same job with more surrounding capability and a sales process attached.

If your only problem is scheduling tag

A one-way recorder is enough and costs less. Hireflix at 75 dollars a month for companies under 50 employees includes unlimited responses, positions and seats, and is deliberately narrow: it does not do live interviews, assessments or scheduling, and it does not pretend to. If you genuinely do not mind watching responses back, do not pay for scoring you will not use.

If you interview in high volume for hourly roles

The economics change above a few hundred applicants per role. Chat and SMS screening tools like Paradox are built for that pattern and reach candidates who never open email. Expect quote-only pricing and a real implementation. Our page on high volume hiring software covers where the threshold sits.

If you want to keep running interviews yourself

Then what you want is a notetaker, not an interviewer. Metaview records and summarizes the interviews your team already conducts, with a free tier that suits low volume. It will not reduce the number of calls anyone sits in.

What to check before you buy

Five things separate a tool that works at small scale from one that quietly costs more than it saves.

Ask whether the tool conducts or records, in those words, because marketing copy blurs it constantly. Ask what happens to candidates who need an alternative format, since ADA accommodation is a legal requirement at any company size. Ask for the bias audit, which New York City requires be independent, conducted within the previous 12 months, and published; a vendor without one makes your compliance harder no matter where you hire. Confirm your ATS stays the system of record so you are not migrating data to try a screening tool. And confirm the contract term, because monthly billing is what makes a small-business experiment reversible.

On the compliance point specifically, the rules vary by where the job sits, and several widely repeated effective dates are wrong in current roundups. Our state-by-state guide to whether AI job interviews are legal covers what New York City, Illinois, Maryland and Colorado each require.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest AI interview software?

Of the tools publishing a price in July 2026, Hireflix is the lowest at 75 dollars a month billed yearly for companies under 50 employees, with unlimited responses. It records one-way interviews rather than conducting them, so the saving is real but the reviewing work stays with your team. Among tools that conduct the interview, InterviewAgent.ai at 149 dollars a month is the only one publishing a price at all.

Is AI interview software worth it for a company with under 50 employees?

It depends on hiring frequency, not headcount. A 20-person company filling six roles a year and screening 25 applicants each is spending well over 100 hours on first rounds, and that is worth automating. A 45-person company that hires twice a year is not, and would do better with a free scheduling link and a structured question list.

Can AI interview software integrate with my ATS?

Most do, and you should insist on it. Your ATS should remain the system of record, with the screening tool pulling applicants from the existing pipeline and writing scores, transcripts and status back. A tool that requires you to manage candidates in a second place adds work rather than removing it, which defeats the purpose at small scale.

Do candidates dislike AI interviews?

Reaction depends far more on transparency than on the technology. Candidates told upfront that AI will conduct the screen, given a plain explanation of what is evaluated, assured a human makes the decision, and offered an alternative format generally accept it, and many prefer interviewing at 9pm to taking a call during their workday. Screening people without telling them is what generates complaints. We look at the evidence in do candidates accept AI interviews.

What is the difference between an AI interviewer and an AI recruiter?

An AI recruiter works the top of the funnel: sourcing, outreach and sometimes resume screening, to produce candidates. An AI interviewer works the next stage, screening the candidates you already have and ranking them. They solve opposite bottlenecks, and buying the wrong one makes the real problem worse. Our comparison of an AI interview agent vs an AI recruiter sets out how to tell which you need.

Pricing above was read from each vendor's own pricing page in July 2026 and changes without notice. Where a vendor does not publish pricing we have said so rather than repeating third-party estimates, which frequently contradict vendor pages.
